Please join St. Agnes Parish as we give public witness to the value of all life on Fridays from Noon to 2:00PM outside Planned Parenthood on S. Oneida Street. Abortion is the leading cause of death in the United States.  May our prayer and fasting help to change our culture and save babies lives.  Sign up in the narthex. The late Congressman Henry Hyde, author of the Hyde Amendment, wrote: "When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness.  You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God - and a terror will rip through your soul like nothing you can imagine.  But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone.  I think there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world - and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement.  They will say to God, 'Spare him because he loved us,' - and God will look at you and say not, 'Did you succeed?' but 'Did you try?'"

Blessing of the easter food basket

An Eastern European Tradition for Holy Saturday

March 31 ~ 9:30AM

St. Agnes Church

A parishioner, Stefani Butler, brought this food blessing tradition to Fr. Patrick which will be offered here this year.

The Easter blessing of food owes its origin to the fact that the particular foods placed in the basket were forbidden in the Middle Ages during the Lenten fast and abstinence. When the feast of Easter brought the fast to an end, the people showed their joy and gratitude by taking the food to church for a blessing.

Typically a wicker basket is used with an embroidered cloth.

The food items placed in the Easter basket have special significance. A typical Eastern European basket would include any of these foods, (although every family may have its own traditions): Bacon, Bread, Butter, Cheese, Ham, Sausage, Horseradish, Salt, Colored eggs, Sweets and a Candle.

Tradition includes every member of the family feasting on the blessed foods on Easter Sunday.

Bring your Easter food basket to church on Holy Saturday at 9:30AM for a blessing.

Journey Into The Desert

New schedule

When people think about a desert many thoughts or images will enter their minds

depending on where they’re at in life. Some may feel dryness, loneliness, or desperation. Some may feel it’s an escape from the daily routine, an adventure or exploration!

Biblically, a desert experience can be a retreat from life, a time of evaluating or testing your faith, perhaps to get a handle on where you’re at in life right now. Or simply to be with God for a while.

All are welcome!

New Schedule!

Meets on Wednesdays in the St. Gabriel Room at church.

Two Topics each week.

First session begins at 5:00 p.m., Second session at 6:00 p.m.

Come for one or all sessions – each stands alone.

January and February sessions include an overview of Church History, Catholic Morality and a weekly walk through the Seven Sacraments. The Season of Lent will take us on a detailed view of Lenten Customs and Practices, a study of the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer and the Meaning of Holy Week.

Please continue to keep our High School students in your prayers as they continue to strive to live out their God given Mission in their lives.
