Peace & Social Justice news

Our Peace and Social Justice Committee has chosen to support the efforts of the non-profit program, Eye Heart World. Their services are dedicated to aid victims of sex-trafficking in our community. A safe house, The Rose House, is set to open early this summer. Already seven young girls and women are receiving aid. When these young females are directed to Eye Heart World by our law enforcement, they have literally nothing of their own.

At this time, we are asking for any of these needed items:

travel sized toiletries pack of hair ties

            hand sanitizer combs

            baby/flushable wipes socks

            feminine hygiene products undergarments

            sweatshirts/sweatpants closed-toed slippers

              note cards of encouragement/prayers

Please deposit items in the “Rose House” drop-box in the narthex from June 3rd to 25th.

inspiring disciples

through the bishop's appeal

Our Diocese is Inspiring Disciples by supporting people in need of Jesus’ love through the Bishop’s Appeal.

The Bishop’s Appeal helps train ministers who bring God’s love to those who are homebound, sick or hospitalized. Children grow in their Faith through Religious Education programs and at Camp Tekakwitha. The Bishop’s Appeal also guides college students and adults through evangelization efforts and Adult Faith Formation programs. Through the Bishop’s Appeal we help form and train ministers through the Emmaus formation program. Many are called to be deacons or lay ministers.

All these people inspire disciples and all receive support through the Bishop’s Appeal.

Please make a gift to the Bishop’s Appeal. Help us inspire disciples.

Welcome gail eichhorn

Recently, St. Agnes Parish brought Gail Eichhorn on staff as the Evangelization and Ministries Coordinator. Gail had been working at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish in Two Rivers, and will relocate to Green Bay in late spring.

One of Gail’s responsibilities is to coordinate the parish RCIA and Adult Confirmation Programs. Currently she is working with Sr. Dorothy, who began this year’s program in the interim. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is the process by which interested persons can learn more about the Catholic faith in hope of deepening their faith life and responding with a conversion experience.

Typically RCIA runs from fall through Holy Saturday at which time new members are baptized, confirmed and receive Holy Eucharist. RCIA is also for baptized Catholic adults who wish to complete their initiation sacraments by receiving Confirmation, or Eucharist and Confirmation. Another scenario may be adults who have been baptized in another denomination but now wish to become Catholic. These are not re-baptized but brought into full communion through catechizing, Eucharist and Confirmation. The whole process is about meeting people where they are at and bringing them to a conversion experience and into the life of the church.

Gail’s other responsibilities will include becoming our parish Lo-SEC person; sharing in the hospital, nursing home, and short-term homebound visits and being the contact person for our charitable drives like the current Help for the Homeless Hygiene Drive.

“I am very pleased to be a part of St. Agnes Parish, and am so impressed by the many ministries and activities that are happening here; there is literally, something for everyone.”

Inquiries about RCIA or Adult Confirmation may be directed to her through the main office phone number or by email at stagnesemc@netnet.net.

CHRISTIANITY & SCIENCE

dr. Warren v. johnson

Christians can boldly pursue science without reservation. The pursuit of truth requires the rational integration of faith and science.

This presentation opens with a comparison of science and Christianity (scientific method and creed) that should convince most that there is no inherent conflict despite the contrary arguments made by some who seek to use science to attack Christianity.

Then it will be shown how thermodynamics requires a creator who is not part of the universe and therefore materialism is not possible.

Issues regarding science and Christianity will be addressed, such as

  • How to understand the first 11 chapters of Genesis
  • Were Adam and Eve real people?
  • Evolution
  • Origin of the earth and universe.

Questions welcome!
